South of Sibiu, the Transylvanian plateau rolls into a landscape of Saxon villages, medieval fortified churches, and unpaved roads that were built for oxcarts and are now perfect for cycling. Between Sibiu and Brașov, this six-day route links villages that have barely changed in three centuries — Viscri, Biertan, Saschiz, Malancrav — on quiet roads and gravel tracks through fields of wildflowers, past shepherds still moving flocks on foot, with the Carpathian foothills always on the horizon.
Arrival in Sibiu. Bike fitting and route briefing. Afternoon walk through Sibiu's old town. Welcome dinner in the historic centre. Overnight in Sibiu.
First riding day — 42 km through rolling farmland to the UNESCO fortified church at Biertan. The route passes through Noul Român and Richiș on gravel tracks. Overnight at a guesthouse in Biertan.
Through the Târnava Mare valley to Saschiz — another fortified church, another village where the 15th century never fully left. Lunch with a Saxon family who still farms here. Distance: 38 km.
The most remote section of the route — a 35 km ride across open plateau to Viscri, one of the best-preserved Saxon villages in Transylvania. The white fortified church here has been carefully restored and still holds the village's records going back to the 15th century. Overnight in a farmhouse guesthouse.
Final riding day — descent from the plateau towards the Carpathian foothills. The route approaches Brașov through forest and meadow. Farewell dinner in Brașov old town. Overnight in Brașov.
Morning at leisure in Brașov. Bike return. Transfer to Brașov airport or train station for onward travel. End of programme.
