Bike ride through Southern Transylvania
Discover Transylvania with the wheel.
Away from the busy main roads Transylvania can ride a bike comfortably and easily on many roads. The closely located villages allow one to explore many places in a short time. Prepare yourself for a journey on which you will overtake many horse-drawn carriages and unforgettable landscapes.
Day 2: Emil Cioran and bear watching
By Erlenpark here for the ASTRA Open Air Museum in Forest boys. Then we continue to Răşinari on the Emil Cioran-route. Here awaits us a tasting of shepherds specialties (cheese) in a boarding house. Then we learn about the Transylvanian Saxon traditions in Michelberg / Cisnădioara and Heltau / Cisnădie. Finally, we make a bear watching in the Fagaras Mountains.
Day 3: Storks and pastoral traditions
Along the Zibingebirge we drive to the village with the most storks’ nests around. We watch the storks from the church tower and learn from the “Friends of Storks” more about the projects in place. We continue to Sibiel. The horse-drawn carriage we make a village tour. Then we visit the Ironforge, the little glass icon museum and the distillery. Last dinner in a peasant family.
Day 4: chamois and marmots in the Fagaras mountains
Transfer by minibus to Kerz / Carta. From there we drive along the Southern Carpathians according to Lisa. We spend the day in a nature reserve. Accompanied by a ranger we observe on a hike chamois and marmots. Then we walk in the Southern Carpathians. In the evening transfer to the Harbach valley. Dinner and check-in at an organic farm.
Day 5: The whoosh and bird watching in Harbach valley
With a cyclo-trolley we drive on the tracks of the “whoosh” to the Old Mill in timber quantities. Here we take a bird watching at the forest edge (especially spotted eagle) and continue through small villages on outlying roads to Reichesdorf.
Day 6: World Heritage and old horse and cart paths
At the beginning we fortess the fortified churches Birthälm / Biertan and Copsa / Copsa Mare. On old horse-drawn carriage routes we drive through the wine-and Kokel district. Dinner is in the beautiful Apafi-Manor mansion in Malmkrog / Mălâncrav that belongs to the property of the Mihai Eminescu Foundation. Accommodation at the hotel for two nights in Sighisoara / Sighişoara at the castle.
Day 7: Bio-diversity, water buffalo and ancient crafts
In the morning there is a guided tour of the castle in Sighisoara, including promotion to the Clock Tower. Transfer to Saschiz / Saschiz. Our bike tour we do here on new bike trails together with a representative of the Association ADEPT (a Foundation of Prince Charles). We visit a local organic producers, a craftsman and a water buffalo farm in Meschendorf / Mesendorf. Dinner on a farm.
Day 8: Departure
Transfer to the airport for your flight back home in Sibiu or individual extension.
