Over 300 bird species nest or migrate through the delta each year, including the world's second-largest colony of Dalmatian pelicans. By kayak you reach places no motor boat can follow.

Paddle east into the delta along the Sulina arm — the most navigable of the three main Danube channels. Leave the main channel and enter the secondary canal network. First encounters with great white pelicans, cormorants, and grey herons. Overnight at a floating guesthouse deep in the reeds.
Morning paddle to the Dalmatian pelican nesting colony — one of the largest in the world. Afternoon crossing of Lake Fortuna, a vast open-water lake surrounded by reed islands. Your ornithologist guide identifies species throughout the day.
A short paddle to Letea village — the oldest settlement in the delta — then a guided walk through the Letea Forest, the northernmost subtropical forest in Europe. Wild horses roam free through the oaks and lianas. Overnight in C.A. Rosetti or Letea.
Paddle to Sulina — the easternmost town in Romania, at the mouth of the Danube. A surreal place of faded Habsburg grandeur, abandoned lighthouses, and a cosmopolitan cemetery. Afternoon on the Black Sea beach. Return by boat to Tulcea. Farewell dinner.
Transfer to Tulcea airport or bus station for onward travel. End of programme.
