THE TASTE OF ROMANIA

A culinary journey through the country

The intact remained village life of Romania gives us the opportunity to enjoy traditional dishes. Almost every family in some villages grow its own vegetables and fruits, has its own sheep, cows, pigs and chickens. These families invite you to be their guests.

 

Day 1: Bucharest

Our journey begins in Bucharest, the capital city of Romania. We will enjoy a city tour. The many newly opened local places include more and more international cuisine. We will enjoy our dinner in a restaurant from the interwar period called: “Jaristea”. The taste and ambience take you back in time when Bucharest was still called “Little Paris”. Day 2: Bucharest - Cozia - Sibiu

After breakfast we leave Bucharest. The first stop will be in Cozia. The monastery was built in 1388 and is considered to be one of the most important places of worship in the region. Then we drive to through the valley of the River Olt until we arrive in Sibiu . After a very short break in our hotel, we make the first discovery tour. In the evening, we are invited in a very special restaurant: “Kulinarium”, in the city center. Overnight in Sibiu.

Day 3: Sibiu - Cisnadioara - Sibiu

After a detailed walking tour of the city, which was with Luxembourg European Capital of Culture in 2007, we continue our day and discover Cisnădioara. Must-see here is the 13th century Romanesque style castle. Then we are invited to be their guests by the Henning family. They are among the few who prefer not to emigrate, so we can enjoy a very delicious food cooked for us by Mrs. Henning. Until that happens, Mr. Henning invites us into his workshop and shows us something unique. We will have an unforgettable evening. Overnight in Sibiu.

Day 4: Sibiu - Rothenberg - Sibiu

After breakfast we go together to the farmer’s market and each will have its own shopping list. Then we go to Roşia. We visit the Protestant church and have a interesting conversation with the writer Eginald Schlattner. Then we are invited to make a picnic into a courtyard where we will share the fresh products we have purchased in the morning. Our main destination for the evening is Sibiel. We will let us spoiled with Romanian top dishes. Overnight in Sibiu.

Day 5: Sibiu - Biertan - Cund

Today we leave Sibiu and continue north. In Biertan we visit the fortified church, which was almost for 300 years the seat of the bishop of the Evangelical Church. At noon we arrive in Cund, a small, almost forgotten village in the heart of Transylvania. We will take a walk through the village and admire the authentic scenery. In the evening we enjoy the meal which will be prepared in the community center. Overnight in Cund.

Day 6: Cund - Mălâncrav - Sighisoara

After breakfast, we leave Cund and drive to the village Mălâncrav. We visit the church and the Apafi castle and after,we will have a picnic in the garden. In the afternoon we reach Sighişoara. The famous belonging to UNESCO castle was restored in recent years and now it shines in new splendor. We reach our hotel and in the evening we have dinner at Villa Franka.

Day 7: Sighisoara - Bistrita - Rădăuţi

Today continues from Sighisoara to the north. First stop is Bistrita. We take a short city tour, including a visit to the Protestant church in the main square. In the evening we reach Rădăuţi, in the heart of Bukovina. Dinner and overnight in Rădăuţi.

Day 8: Moldavian monasteries

Today, the UNESCO-protected Moldavian monasteries are on our must-see list. We visit Moldoviţa, Voroneţ and Suceviţa. For lunch, we enjoy a local soup in the Monastery of Moldoviţa. Monastic life also includes agriculture and animal husbandry. Suceviţa stands as the last on the agenda for today, because here we enjoy the typical dishes of Bukovina for dinner at Trandafir family. Overnight in Rădăuţi.

Day 9 Rădăuţi - Iasi - Bucharest

After breakfast we leave Rădăuţi and go to Iasi, ​​last capital of the Moldavian princes. After a city tour we will drive to the airport. From there we take a flight to Bucharest, which we reached in just 45 minutes. We enjoy dinner in a restaurant at the 18th floor of a skyscraper. Overnight in Bucharest.

Day 10 journey home

After breakfast it is time to say goodbye. “La revedere”, Romania!
